2026 Intellectual Property Law: How It Started; How It’s Going
The Conference organized by Santa Clara Law examines the past five decades in intellectual property law. During the past 50 years, the United States—and indeed the world—witnessed profound changes in technologies, creative production, and the globalization of markets. Starting with the advent of personal computers, then digital technologies and the Internet, and now AI, our respective IP systems have, at times, faced similar challenges and controversies fueled by these transformations. And, in some cases, respective IP protections were sought to protect different aspects of the same underlying technology, such as the smartphone.
