Jim was born in Los Angeles to parents Carol Macmillan Andre and Peter Andre. Raised in San Luis Obispo California, Jim graduated from Mission High School in 1965. He received his Bachelor of Science in Commerce in 1969 from Santa Clara University where his father Peter and Uncle George Andre attended. He went on to work in Finance later opening retail sportswear stores called Sports Locker with locations in San Francisco, West Hollywood and Houston, TX. Jim received his MBA from USC in 1976 and PhD in Education from USC in 1990. He became accounting manager for construction for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, later becoming a professor at Marshall School of Business at USC from 1984 to 1997 where he taught Finance. He went on to teach business classes at Loyola Marymount University, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and later taught accounting at Santa Monica Community College from 1997 until his passing. During his college instructional career he was proud to teach on Semester at Sea as a professor, circumnavigating the globe on 4 semester-long voyages. He met his life partner of 36 years, Paul Kellogg on January 1 1988 at the Rose Bowl football game.Travel was Jim's passion and he visited more than 40 countries returning over and over to his favorites, Germany, France, Netherlands, England and Vietnam. Especially meaningful to Paul and Jim was a 2022 trip to the battlefields of Normandy, France where his father, Peter Andre, landed at Utah Beach on D-Day, June 6, 1944. They lived in Pasadena together and then Hollywood Hills for 30 years. Paul and Jim enjoyed traveling, boating at Nacimiento Lake and their second home in San Luis Obispo with many trips to Avalon, Catalina Island. Jim was proudest of his leadership in the establishment of the LGBTQ+ endowed scholarship fund at Santa Clara University and his work with the sober community for over 41 years. Jim is survived by his partner, Paul Kellogg, brothers David and wife Donna Andre of Nipomo, Donald Andre, wife Toni Andre and niece, Sarah Andre of San Luis Obispo, sister Jeanne Andre and partner Jerome Janisse of Delta, Colorado, sister Terry Andre of Palo Alto and partner Peter Stonestrom, Paul's parents Richard and Nancy Kellogg, sister Pam Kellogg Dougherty, husband Harry Dougherty and nephew Ryan Dougherty.
Memorial service will be held at Reis Family Mortuary San Luis Obispo on Friday, May 24th, 2024 at 11:00 with lunch at Dallidet Adobe and gardens following.
